Creating a Twitter List

There are a variety of key elements in twitter that can help drive traffic to various twitter sites and encourage other twitter users to follow pages.

One of the best functions in driving traffic and keeping tabs with active followers, is the twitter List. A Twitter List is a great source for an Twitter page looking to create a forum or a message board among followers or recommend other users to follow. For example, if one were to create a twitter group for employees or people associated with a club, those followers would be able to share tweets with each other, making it a little easier to re-tweet, favorite, comment, respond to and keep tabs with other members.

One of the key elements of twitter Groups is that while it can act like a twitter page, not everyone on that list is following your particular page, they can read your tweets (if not privacy protected) but they are not following you immediately. Rather this list provides you with recommendations of who to follow and connect with, which is helpful in expanding ones twitter following. For those who chose not to follow a certain member of that list, they can do so through the list without actually following them.
Twitter lists are simple to create and can accessed through the list section on a twitter page. To create a list, simply click the square button with three lines and a dropdown revealing click list will be revealed, then follow the prompt which asks to name your list and write a brief 100 character description. There is a public list and private list option for those who do not want to have such list of tweets revealed to the public. Lists can be URL accessed by adding backlash the list name to the twitter URL. i.e. twitter.com/username/list
A popular site to find lists is Listorious which like Twitter’s main page features a list of the most popular tweets on the web often featured on twitter lists. That can be found at listorious.com
One often finds that the most popular tweets are often listed in Twitter groups, in addition to other ways to gain exposure such as retweeting, commenting, referring, linking (especially shortlinking with Bit.ly) and hashtagging.
